ELIXAIR E1250
Elixair duct filter supplements the existing air ventilation system. The duct filter is highly effective, requires conjunctional installation in the fresh air duct, as it filters out the smallest of particles from the supply air, preventing them from entering the room. Below is a shortlist of items that should be considered when addressing airborne viruses and bacteria in the home and at work in the current COVID-19 climate
Electronic air Decontamination
Electronic filtration addresses one of the issue of airborne contamination while its suspended in the air. This is really useful if you start thinking about:
A. how hard is it to decontaminate all surfaces once contaminants land on surfaces
B. how long can contaminants remain suspended in Air. Below is 4 excerpts from a Genano Presentation the full presentation can be viewed at the Genanp Presentation link.
1. With Genano Air Purifiers, you can remove even Nano-size particles, gaseous compounds (VOC’s) and microbes; such as bacteria, viruses and mold spores from indoor air
Our unique electric filtration technology removes even the most dangerous ultra-fine particles that cause harm to our bodies by penetrating to the blood circulation through lungs. When traditional fiber filter can collect particles about up to 300 nanometer (=0.3 µm) size, Genano® Non-thermal Plasma filtering technology collects particles even 3 nanometer (=0.0003 µm) of size.
2. What is a Nano particle?
With Genano® technology, we manufacture air purification devices that can filter 3–100 nm sized nanoparticles from indoor air. Nano is a measuring range (nanometer, micrometer, millimeter, and centimeter).
1 nanometer is a billionth of a meter, i.e. 1 ∙ 10–9 m.
Nano particles are classified as ultra-small particles, that according to WHO are the most dangerous for the human body.
The size of a Nano particle is proportionally the same with respect to football than the size of football with respect to the globe.
3. This is how to get rid of airborne microbes, such as viruses, bacteria and mold spores
Genano’s air purifiers could be called indoor air disinfection equipment, as they eliminate organic microbes, such as mold spores, viruses and bacteria. There is nothing organic in the device's collection tray, so there is no risk of microbes spreading back into the indoor air. Genano’s Air Decontamination devices are ideal for premises, where there are large numbers of people, and the risk of airborne contamination, such as flu, is high.
4. Genano® Non-thermal Technology has been tested in several research institutes:
Genano’s air purifiers could be called indoor air disinfection equipment, as they eliminate organic microbes, such as mold spores, viruses and bacteria. There is nothing organic in the device's collection tray, so there is no risk of microbes spreading back into the indoor air. HEPA filter
We work with HEPA filters a lot in the cleanroom industry, they are utilised to capture particles suspended in the air, in regard to bacteria and viruses there is a correlation between lowering particle counts and lowering viable (bacteria and viruses) counts, which is why in cleanroom standards, particle counts are one of the performance considerations, amongst other items.
PROS
Help Lower particel counts.
CONS
One thing HEPA filters don’t take into account is destroying the living organisms they capture, meaning there are likely to be living viruses and bacteria in and on the filter media, which is why in many “microbial sensitive” clean rooms (IVF, DNA etc ) additional air sanitisation systems / Air Decontamination systems are incorporate
Air decontamination
As you can see from the figure below there are air sanitisers in the market that filter particles to the virus size, the added benefit of the genano systems is they have a efficient method of destroying bacteria and viruses1 (1 see data available at Genano.com for all the different tests done worldwide with regard to virus and bacteria kill rates).

Disposable Facemasks
Currently we are seeing a lot of people wearing P2 facemask and N95 facemasks.
I would love to see a particulate size Vs filter performance graph for these filters but I’ve had trouble locating one. This may be because the standard for performance for these filters is set at .3um and if the filter media meets the requirement then the performance at different sizes (smaller) isn’t worth considering, but as you'll see from the size scales of bacteria and viruses this is only where the interesting part begins.
Filtration Size

There is obviously a level of performance with the P2 or N95 disposable facemasks otherwise the Australian Government wouldn’t have bought 54 million of them, but care should be given to how they are worn. To understand the limitations of these items, we reccommend viewing the NSW government health website that gives details as to how this should be worn and removed and disposed of here
Some items for thought with p2 masks / n95 masks:
- consideration should be given to the inherent limited time efficiency,
- possible contamination risks when removing the mask.
- the N95/P2 filter media dose not kill or destroy bacteria
- the p2 / N95 filter media dose not kill or destroy viruses (so they living organisms are still present on or in the structure of the filter material.)
Care should be taken when you remove them as there will be particulate and viral load in and on the filter Media.

Air sanitisers
We have been supplying and installing air sanitisers of different kinds for air conditoners from cleanrooms to the little high wall splits for the past 15 years. These are usually consumable type products are installed in ducted or wall split air conditioning units that reduce the bio load in an air-conditioned space. The life expectancy of these products is usually between two weeks and two months of normal use, once these items are used up you throw them away and put another one in.
Air decontamination
We are currently agents for Air decontamination units that destroy bacteria and kill viruses, they use cold plasma technology and come in a range of sizes from personal units to industrial scale, there are fully automated units that are self-clean, this increases efficiency and when compared to a standard filter is a much longer lifespan without deteriorating performance. These units have been tested against all sorts of contaminants and extensively used throughout the world.
CoVid-19
If you’re currently concerned with how clean your air is and the possibility of viruses like COVID -19,
(Have a look at some of the recent Data from America: https://www.niaid.nih.gov/news-events/new-coronavirus-stable-hours-surfaces).
It becomes apparent that filtration down to virus size is required and that destroying the virus is preferred to remove the possibility of infection.
